Thank you for your heart warming notes for Sir Rudy. Sir Rudy, who was highly regarded as Baden Powell of Tondo, was a father to a number of poor Tondo boys, opening his home to shelter them as they pursued their studies through his unwavering support- opening his heart to guide them as they journeyed through the challenges that came with an environment that was Tondo. Sir Rudy breathed, talked, and lived scouting in the best manner he knew how. Scouting values were upheld in his every bone. He did his best to live up to the principle- the way to be happy is to make others happy. In spite of old age, dwindling financial resource and failing health, Sir Rudy still chose to serve scouting until his twilight years. During such time, he was dubbed the country’s oldest Boy Scout. Likewise, media took notice of his unparalleled example as he went about his humble vocation of being man for young scouts- Cheche Lazaro, Korina Sanchez, and Marc Logan were themselves moved when each featured him in their respective TV shows. While Sir Rudy’s memory will surely linger on to many Boy Scouts and leaders who met him, the foundation is dedicated to let that spark get the fire glowing- that through the lessons the former Boy Scouts learned from him, they will go on as brother-scouts. As Sir Rudy taught that the way to be happy is to make others happy- the foundation is appealing to his former Scouts, that within their own means, they can share in defraying his final financial obligations and provide him a final resting place. And as Sir Rudy inspired the Boy Scouts about having a little love that does not come and go- the foundation is challenging the brother-scouts to move as one to build him a lasting memorial in the propagation of Scouting ideals. The Laging Handa Foundation, a group of former Boy Scouts from the schools Sir Rudy served, which assisted him during his last years, is appealing for financial assistance to defray the incurred hospital and burial expenses, to provide him a final resting place he can call his own, and to establish a memorial foundation in his honor. With your heart-warming words for Sir Rudy and with your favorable response to the foundation in his honor, Sir Rudy’s life would not be in vain as he is lifted to his highest and last camping. Your response to this call will make Sir Rudy salute the Great Scoutmaster with confidence and claim that he left this world much better than he found it. Pls go to YOUTUBE.COM and search for these keywords: sir rudy scouting boy trinity 1997 airshow usaf I tried to post messages before to no avail. Hope these will work this time. Sir Rudy: a legacy, a pillar and an institution in the Philippine scouting movement. The most dedicated and sincere professional in his field. Scouting is his way of life and only family - and we (scouts from TrinityC HS, Torres HS, FEU etc) were his children. He has given a lot to so many and expected none. I am truly honored to have met a person as respectable as sir Ridy. You will be missed by so many. Diego(Jon) Dela Cruz Rizal Scout TrinityC HS class of ''''72

a man who dedicated his life to the scouting movement. Inculcated to our young minds the virtues of service, brotherhood and nationalism. The lives he touched and virtues he imparted transcends time and space. Happy Camping Sir Rudy, Philippines "Baden Powell" for all of us in Troop 85.

Sir Rudy is an icon, a legacy, and a legend of boy scouting. There is no other person I know bigger than him when it comes to scouting. He thrown seeds to many young boys for them to grow and make use...In 1996 25 years after I learned the use of semaphore flag communication, I used it in Indian Ocean to substitute the hi-tech comm. I remember the principle "the brown fox"...he taught troop. 22. Again, I''ll end this with Lord Baden Powell''s "Sir Rudy leaved this world a little better when he found it."

Update: Sorry for the wrong information that I posted last Tuesday.

The body of Sir Rudy was still at the Trinity University in E.Rodriguez.Last night,it was Torres High School night of necrological services.Father Erick Santos, Troop 85 Alumni, officiated a mass in honor to Sir Rudy.It was a typical scouting night,we had song and eulogy to our Great Scoutmaster Sir Rudy Gutierrez. Most of the batches from 1970''s to 80''s were present.(Sila ang pinakamarami)We represented the 90''s Troop 85 Scout.Sad to say kaunti lang kami.We liven up the spirit of Scouting and remembered Sir Rudy''s post scouting tribulations like having sickness & loneliness,it was highlighted with how Trinity Scouts and Torres High School Scouts and FEU Scouts,Calderon scouts, close friends,Scouting alumni etc. united to help Sir Rudy in different ways.We ended up the gathering past 9 pm and we have recited again "The Scout Oath & Law" in front of the casket of Sir Rudy Gutierrez.

A hero to many. It is a privelege to know a great man. My vivid memories of the 13th World Jamboree in Japan. And scouting while at Trinity College. My campfire will always serve a lasting tribute. Farewell Sir Rudy. May your campfire always set aglow. ... Joel, Class of 72.
